Thank you Janet. I love your comment too.

Kurt’s advice is good. I think I am good at finding little things that make me happy. I had an MRI this morning and I had an impressive fountain of blood when she put the cannula in. It would have been easy to be upset by that, but the nurse was impressed by my blood squirting, and she and I managed to find a little joke and a little joy in it. Life is good.

I had no clue what he was talking about until I read that line about the mother of beauty. I might try reading a bit more poetry now to see if I can find any other good ones!

I had to read the notes that came w/ the poem to which you liked to figure out what the heck he was writing about, other than the woman & the oranges (cockatiels aren’t green but tan & yellow which threw me for a loop, too). Don’t feel bad.

Darkness and light, yin and yang, pros and cons, plusses and minuses, night and day. Everything *is* relative after all, I guess, and we can only understand the significance of something in the context of some other things. The understanding that the little proverbial shoes and the ultimate great big shoe may drop from any direction and with any number of consequences at literally any moment provides the Big Context — so indeed, awareness and appreciation of what I know to be true in the moment, that gives me pleasure or other satisfaction, those are my objectives in daily life.
Reminds me of a quotation attributed to Kurt Vonnegut Jr. from a speech he is said to have given to a graduating class at a college somewhere a long time ago.
“And I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, ‘If this isn’t nice, I don’t know what is.’” I look for those moments and cherish them.
