A Theory of Comedy

I have a theory of comedy. To test my theory, I’d like all readers to state their preference in the comments. Please include a reason if you have one.

Which are funnier, monkeys or weasels?

I have a follow up question.

  1. Weasels. The word itself is funnier.

And yet in my CI talk I get more laughs from saying “I’d be pushing the button like a crazed monkey” than when I say I’d be like a crazed weasel. Maybe monkey have the advantaged when there is button pushing involved?

  2. Monkeys.

Weasels bite and seem nasty. Nasty’s not funny.

Monkeys are cute (in the image first to my mind, not to say they’re all always cute), and fling poo, which is funny. They were hilarious in the movie Madagascar. Tarzan’s monkey (cheetah) always gave us hijinx to laugh at.

My assumption was that you were referring to the animal, so I didn’t have the non-animal connotations for weasel.

Monkeys are also easier to relate to.
